Greetings all of my strategy roguelike card battler enjoyers! StS2 has a 2025 release date and would you look at that, it’s 2025 now! Surely that means it’s right around the corner right? …Right? Well fortunately for us the devs have been keeping us updated with a lot of what they’ve got going on so far, so here is everything we know for the upcoming sequel to the game that set the stage for roguelike card battlers.

Release date

2025. That’s it. That’s all we got. The last update on their steam page was the first official gameplay trailer they dropped on the 12th of December, but no news of a release date as of yet, but with it now 2025 in their 2025 scheduled release date, we should get another update with, fingers crossed, a release date attached.

Gameplay

Based on watching the trailer and everything else the devs have posted so far, the gameplay loop looks pretty much the same. You pick a starter character, kill some monsters, get some loot and new cards, etc. etc., so not much has changed there, it’ll still be the game we all know and love, and, if you’re like me, still play religiously.

One Possible major change you can pick up if you watch the gameplay trailer closely is the ability to pick a starter deck, or “pack” from Neow, which is pretty huge. Not going every run with the same deck over and over adds a plethora of ways to build, and if there’s one thing I love it’s build diversity. But I doubt that’s all the devs have in store for us and can see them throwing something really spicy into the cog works, but so far the only thing that they’ve shown that would really shake up the gameplay, aside from the starter deck, was the pet mechanic, and I’ll talk more about that in the next section.

Starter Deck choices in the form of card packs potentially?

New Content

And oh boy is there. Just from the trailer alone you can see all of the additions they’re adding into the sequel, from new characters, new cards, and new enemies. On top of all the new content, they’ve also done some pretty heavy lifting on both the UI of the game, and the game engine itself. They’ve even admitted to adding what was a mod for drawing on the map directly into the game. We love devs who listen to what the people want! I can’t wait to draw a big fat di…rect line to the nearest elite! But let’s talk about these new characters; we’ve got Ironclad and Silent from the trailer, (Defect and Watcher weren’t in the trailer, but I think it’s safe to say they’ll make their way into the game) but there were two new additions revealed, with one of those being the Necrobinder and his pet hand. He looks like a spooky scary skeleton with his pet being a giant skeletal hand fighting alongside him. Super sweet. The character brings that fancy new pet mechanic which looks like you get two heroes in one, with each having their own individual health pool and cards you can get, either buffing himself, the hand, or maybe both. We’ve only caught glimpses of new cards so spire’s the limit. As for the other new character revealed in the trailer, we don’t really have much to go on. All the devs gave us were question marks for its name and what looks like some automaton from the spire sitting on the Collector’s throne. A lot is still in the dark but the design leaves me very hopeful for a crazy cool addition to the roster.

Somebody showed me that you can also draw on maps and I said, “That’s a fun idea. Let’s steal it.” -Mega Crit Dev

In the Meantime

That’s all of the major points the devs and trailer covers, but if you want to sleuth more from the minute and a half video we’ve got so far just head over to Mega Crit’s YouTube channel and get your magnifying glass out. Until then you can pick up some sick StS merch from their store, and even a StS inspired board game that recently dropped to hold you over until release, or at least the next update. Until then, I’ll see you all at the top of the spire.
